Lyson Steam Wax Melter

The Lyson W5030 steam wax melter is a simple device for melting down old combs or cappings using heat provided by a 120 or 240 volt steam generator (included, choose voltage above). Steam enters the tank through a hose passing through the cover, and melted wax runs out of the pipe at the bottom of the tank.

Details: Old frames or pieces of wax are loaded into the internal perforated basket. The lid is then closed, and the external wallpaper steamer started. The steamer bathes the wax in steam until the wax melts and drips down through the basket into the tank, and out the spigot. Condensed water and wax accumulate in a bread pan placed under the spigot. The resulting chunks of wax are then ready for further processing.

After the tank has cooled, the frame parts, cocoons, and "junk" are left behind in the basket. Wooden frames can then have new foundation installed for a second life. Note that the steam melter is not compatible with plastic frames or foundation; they will become hopelessly warped and deformed from the heat. 

The steamer works best with loose bits of wax, cappings, burr comb, and foundation; it cannot be loaded with solid chunks as they will take too long to heat and melt. We recommend gradually increasing the amount of wax processed to find the ideal amount for your needs.

Honey is not recoverable from this unit; any honey present will become mixed with the wax and water leaving the unit.
